Poster Contest Winners

Twelve students from Westwood Elementary were chosen as this years Fire Prevention Poster Contest winners.  The students were asked to make a poster with a fire safety message; and as usual, they did not disappoint us.  Pictured below are our winners, as well as Firefighter Derick Oswald, Lieutenant Bill Brown and Westwood Principal Shiela Buckeye.  A big congratulations goes out to third grader Emma Sumpter for having her poster sent to the State Fire Marshal's office for a statewide contest.  Emma and her little sister, Dana, are the granddaughters of retired Fire Lieutenant Jack Sumpter.  Congratulations to all our winners !

Well-Help, Inc. Benefit a HUGE Success

The first annual Wellington Firefighter's Association Chili Cookoff went off without a hitch on October 17 at the Lorain County Fairgrounds.  Nine departments from the area competed for trophies and the People's Choice award for the best chili.  Winning first place was the team from the Grafton Township Fire Department, second place to the Wakeman Fire Department and third place went to the team from the Oberlin Fire Department.  Those in attendance that night voted for their favorite and the People's Choice award went to the Rochester Fire Department.

All of the proceeds raised that night is to be given to Well-Help, Inc. and Bernie Raab of Well-Help, Inc. was presented with a check for $2,268.80 on October 28.  Click the picture of the Wellington Firefighter's Chili team to see more pictures from the evening.

New Water Response Trailer in Service

The Fire District's response to water related incidents has just been improved thanks to the purchase of a new 24' trailer.  The trailer will house all of the Fire District's dive gear, swiftwater gear, as well as both inflatable Zodiac boats and their motors.  Previously, two vehicles would be needed to pull the boat trailer and the equipment trailer.  The new response trailer features not only gear storage but also plenty of room for the divers and other responders to change, as well.
