Mission Statement

Proudly serving since 1881, the Wellington Community Fire District protects the citizens and property of our six communities, by providing professional, courteous, and cost effective fire prevention, protection and emergency services.

Walker Retirement Party

Join members of the Wellington Fire District on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Wellington Eagles to celebrate the retirement of Chief Bob Walker.  Bob will bring his 39 year career to end and the community is invited to share this special moment with the Walker family.  The event is open to the public starting at 2 pm and will end at 5 pm.  Snacks and beverages will be available, so come help the Fire District celebrate.

K96 Firefighter Chili Cookoff

Click to EnlargeThe Wellington Firefighter's Association joined sixteen other teams from the area to compete in the 11th Annual K96 Firefighter Chili Cookoff in Sandusky, Ohio.  Although the team didn't bring any trophies home, all the proceeds the WFD team raised will be donated to Well-Help, Inc.

Smoke Detector Program

Thanks to nearly $3,000 in funding from the United States Fire Administration's Assistance to Firefighters Grant, the Wellington Fire District is currently able to offer free smoke detectors to our residents. Any citizen of the Wellington Community Fire District may request smoke detector assistance either via phone, in person or the internet. If requested, a member of the department will install up to one smoke detector with a 10 year lithium battery on each level of your home. The smoke detector request form must be completed with name, address, contact number and is available at the Kelly Street Fire Station.

District Leadership is Changing

After a lengthy process, the Wellington Fire Board of Trustees voted to name Assistant Chief Mike Wetherbee the next leader of the Fire District.  Wetherbee has been with the department since 1986 and has rose through the ranks throughout his time here, serving as Assistant Chief since July 2005.  Mike and his wife Beth share this with their children Hayley, Hunter and Haven.

Also promoted to an Assistant Chief position was Captain James Clark, a thirty-four year member of the department.  Clark and his wife Kathy have one son, Clint.

Additionally, Lieutenant Bill Brown was promoted to Assistant Chief, effective in December. Brown has been with the department for twenty years, the last eleven as a full-time employee of the Fire District. Married to Kim, the Brown's have daughter Lauren and US Navy Sailor Jarrod.

Congratulations to our new officers !

Grant Funding

Speaking of the federal grant systems. The Wellington Fire District has been one of the most succesful departments in northeast Ohio in terms of receiving federal money. Since receiving our first Assistance to Firefighters Grant in 2005, the district has wrapped up $186,415 in federal money that has been used for equipment, firefighting gear, media equipment, and smoke detectors. The nicest part of that statistic is it has only cost the Fire District $9,321.
